The Meyer Foundation and CompassPoint Other Capacity Building Instruments, Including Non-Monetary

In partnership with CompassPoint, the Meyer Foundation offers an Executive Leadership Intensive, a three-day leadership coaching and training program for current executive directors on the job for between two and five years. “We identified those years as a danger period for many executive directors,” says Rick Moyers, vice president of programs and communications. The program focuses on early tenure leaders running small to-mid-sized nonprofits (annual operating budgets of about $1-3 million). Through individualized and peer learning, the program helps these leaders address frequently mentioned areas of challenge, including fundraising, human resources, and board development. The program benefits from CompassPoint’s research and years of leadership coaching, as well as lessons learned from the Meyer Foundation’s Listening Project, a survey the foundation conducted to learn how it could better support grantee leadership.  Each cohort also brings “collective wisdom,” which helps organizations be creative and develop plans that meet their personal and organizational goals.
