The Funder’s Guide to Investing in Volunteer Engagement

With UPS Foundation as the premier funder, the original version of this guide was developed in 2004 with contributions from more than 50 grant makers, nonprofit leaders and corporate executives from across the United States.

This revised guide provides a platform for funders, corporations, government and other stakeholders to learn more about how and why investing in strategic volunteer engagement will increase the impact of the organizations they support. The guide features:

  • Current research and its implications for volunteer engagement
  • Tools and information to assess a nonprofit's organizational capacity for volunteer engagement
  • Options for supporting volunteerism and volunteer engagement in local communities
  • Successful models of funder investment in volunteer engagement
